Coventry residents challenged to "Play Your Health Right"
NHS Coventry has been leading the way with an innovative community engagement project with a difference, to help the public think through health care decision making and prioritisation. Funded by the Department of health, the project saw a new approach to engaging with the public in discussion about NHS budget allocations.
Using interactive game show-themed engagement activities, NHS Coventry handed over the NHS purse strings to the public and challenged them to ‘play their cards right’ when it comes to getting the right health services across the city. The event included a Wheel of Fortune, Family Fortunes and Play Your Cards Right stall, along with a number of other activities to get city residents thinking about spending the health budget on high quality and cost effective services.
This event was about producing creative and interactive techniques for starting a dialogue with local people about the challenges that will face the NHS in the future. Esther Peapell, Head of Public and Patient Involvement said: “The game show format was just the start of a renewed approach to seeking the views of local people on their NHS.
The engagement team have been taking the tools we have developed for this event on the road and are visiting community and patient groups across the city to further test out this new approach.”
