Ciggy's Story
School children in year six are set to benefit from a new story book which is being rolled out across all schools in Coventry to raise awareness about the dangers of smoking.
In 2009, NHS Coventry and Coventry City Council’s Healthy Schools Programme launched a new smoking prevention booklet called ‘Ciggy’s story’ the booklet is aimed at year six children and provides information about the dangers of smoking.
This is an ideal booklet to raise awareness about the dangers of smoking with young children. We recently piloted the booklet in several primary schools to get some feedback from teachers and children about the book. It’s been extremely helpful in using the feedback as this has helped to shape the booklet and have it illustrated in a way that children can easily understand what the message is.
This resource is an important support to personal, social and health education in the primary school. It supports the important work done in school and tobacco education and helps schools to fulfil their responsibilities in delivering the 'Every Child Matters' agenda.
