Three Steps to Choice
It is important to be aware that not every type of treatment is covered under Patient Choice and your GP will be able to advise whether the specialist treatment you require is included or not (Consultant led services only).
There are 3 key steps involved when it comes to making your choice:
1. Find out what your choices are
Talk to your GP about the choices that are available to you and where you can get more information and support. Your GP/ Practice has the facilities to be able to print off a list of available providers local to you where your treatment can be carried out.
2. Talk it through with someone else
You may want to discuss your choices with family or friends, especially if you are going to need their help with travel arrangements or care after your treatment.
3. Book your appointment
If the service you require is “Directly Bookable” (this means that your GP/ Practice may be able to book your appointment online while you are in the practice) then your GP/ Practice may be able to book your hospital appointment themselves whilst you are in the consultation/ Practice.
If the service is not directly bookable then your GP can provide you with an Appointment Request Letter that supplies you with a list of providers you can choose from. You can use the relevant contact number as detailed on the Appointment Request form to book an appointment yourself. You may also be able to book your appointment for directly bookable services by logging on to www.healthspace.com and following the instructions presented.
