Eating healthily, taking exercise and controlling your weight during pregnancy are all important for the wellbeing of you and your baby.
You can find lots of information and tips about health eating during pregnancy on the NHS Choices website
If you require specific advice about your diet, your midwife can refer you to a dietitian.
Healthy Start
If you are pregnant and receive certain benefits, you may qualify for free vitamins and vouchers to buy milk, fruit and vegetables under the Healthy Start scheme. Go to www.healthystart.nhs.uk to find out more.
Weight Control
It is important to accept you are going to put on weight during your pregnancy. The normal changes in your body and the growing baby can add up to an average weight gain of around 11kg. The more weight you put on above the recommended amount in pregnancy, the more weight you will be left carrying after the birth of your baby.
Just4Mums
Coventry Health Improvement Programme (CHIP) has launched a new healthy weight programme designed to support women with a BMI over 30 to safely manage their weight during pregnancy.
Just4Mums is a free six week course providing advice on healthy eating, gentle exercise and support in setting personal goals. By encouraging eating well and being active during pregnancy, it can help:ยท
- Reduce backache and other unwanted pregnancy symptoms
- Improve sleep patterns Increase energy levels
- Increase the chances that babies will be born a healthy weight
